BING195

What exciting times for us now that we have started our first ICC online meetings under Jason Liddiard’s careful guidance. Jason will report more fully later in the magazine but this an important development for the future of our long running club.

John Mumm has been researching the Milt Gabler papers and in addition, we have three ongoing research projects.  The Kraft Music Hall scripts, the John Scott Trotter papers and now we are seeking information about Bing’s recording activities from the Los Angeles branch of the American Federation of Musicians. Further details in this issue and it is so rewarding to be adding new information to the Crosby story.

Greg Van Beek spotted the covers for this Edition on eBay but we have no background information about the front cover. We are guessing that it may date from 1944. The back cover comes from the Sinatra TV Christmas show in 1957.

There is a very interesting mix of articles in this issue and as usual, I have had to hold back some contributions until next time. A nice problem for an Editor to have and long may it continue.

I am writing this in late-October but not along after you get this magazine I am sure that we will have Bing back in the charts thanks to the impact of streaming from the likes of Spotify, Amazon and so on. It’s a wonderful time of year.

All the best for Christmas and, hopefully, for a peaceful 2024.
