The new radio season found Bing signed up with Chesterfield Cigarettes (to whom he had also been signed for a series of shows in the early 1930s), but with the same supporting team as for the Philco series. Ken Carpenter as announcer, John Scott Trotter Orchestra, and the programme was broadcast over the CBS network.

There is evidence that some of the Chesterfield shows contain tracks pre-recorded in the studio and inserted into the shows. Where this has occurred the surviving tapes of the original inserted material are of high audio quality. Some have been issued by Collectors' Choice in collaboration with Bing Crosby Enterprises.

It follows that some of the songs that appear in different shows might have used the same master copy but the present compiler has done no work on this at the present time.

Some shows also appear to have used inserts from the commercial recordings. See notes to No 7 in the series.

This show is "artificial" as it is a compilation of items from earlier shows with the exception of "Music, Music, Music" and "If I knew You Were Coming I'd've Have Baked A Cake". Lionel Pairpoint has shown that the latter was lifted from the CBS programme, ‘Welcome Back Baseball’ broadcast on 15th April 1950 which was probably recorded on 12 April 1950.

"Music, Music, Music" might have been cut from an earlier rehearsal or recorded for another programmes but not used then.

For "A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes" with Perry Como and "Candy And Cake" with Arthur Godfrey see Programme 29, "Music, Music, Music" also appears in that show, but appears to be different and might have been cut from a rehearsal.

See also general note for show No. 1.

d, e, f, g, h performed as medley.

Lionel Pairpoint has conclusively shown that the programme is built up from earlier shows, and has identified the original sources of each component.
Some of the introductory dialogue has been retained intact from the original broadcast of the relevant title, but in others the intro has been recorded anew and some intros even taken from different recordings of the same title.
Even the medley is a compilation. The origin of the musical tracks (though not all the dialogue) is as follows:-

Row, Row, Row. No. 75.
A Kiss To Build A Dream On. No. 79.
Painting The Clouds With Sunshine. No. 79.
The Morning Side Of The Mountain. No. 77.
Because Of You. No. 82.
The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise. No. 85.
Down Yonder. No. 87.
Never Before. No. 84.
Just One More Chance. No. 87.

Lionel asks why they would do this - even a much lower level of editing and intercutting would have deceived most listeners into thinking they were hearing something new and he evinces some surprise, but see the general notes to show No. 1

Lionel Pairpoint has stated that the version of "Two Shillelagh O'Sullivan" included in the broadcast is the commercial Decca recording overdubbed with audience reaction.

The studio appear to have been working on a tight deadline (recording for same day broadcast) and might have found they were short of material, or found inadequacies in the live performance.

The commercially released version of "Fatherly Advice" is recorded as having originated from radio. This is the only known radio performance but it is not the commercially released version. A possible explanation is that the commercial version might be from a rehearsal for this show.

The sound for the dialogue has a distinctly open air quality. The musical items do not, suggesting that they were separately recorded and spliced into the broadcast.
