The winter edition of BING magazine is now available and contains news of the forthcoming celebration at Gonzaga to mark the centenary of Bing’s birth. Gord Atkinson tells us of the latest issues in his The Crosby Years series and looks back to the 1981 celebration at Gonzaga when Bing’s statue was unveiled.

There is an in-depth tribute to Rosemary Clooney by Ken Crossland and through a most perceptive series of articles we look at the past and possible future of the famous Crosby Pro-Am. The magazine also contains a report on the final annual general meeting at Leeds in the UK of the International Crosby Circle, prior to its merger with Club Crosby. The annual meeting was addressed by Ken Barnes who showed extracts from his new DVD release of Bing’s classic film Holiday Inn.

We have information concerning two new books about Bing by Kathryn Crosby and by Richard Grudens as well as a review of an earlier book by Gary Giddins, Riding On A Blue Note. All of the regular contributors will be there too with Wig Wiggins revealing details of a hitherto unheard of Crosby disc, Keith Parkinson looking at Bing’s film Riding High and Bert Bishop considering East Side Of Heaven which was shown recently on a cable channel in the UK. Bert also gives details of Bing’s appearances on radio and TV on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Keeping Track section looks at the new CD releases, which include the latest from Jonzo Records and a new album from Universal Music containing the songs from Holiday Inn and White Christmas. DVDs are examined in depth with details given of a new Region 2 issue of Holiday Inn which contains many extras. Other artists are not completely neglected as Greg Van Beek provides a review of a recent concert by Frank Sinatra Jr. and Norman Wolfe and Tony Toran discuss Russ Columbo. A thought-provoking comparison of the 25th. Anniversary of the deaths of Elvis Presley and Bing is also included.
